Hello world!

Yesterday, I met the photography students who will be traveling to Brazil with me this summer.  These students are coming from all across the state of TN, this was the only time we will meet before we get on the airplane to Brazil in two months.  Needless to say, we had a lot of information to cover.  Larry Vincent, who will be leading the group, had to cover Visa applications, itinerary information, packing tips, safety concerns, and cultural information.  There just wasn’t enough time for me to cover everything I know about preparing to travel as a photographer.

As I woke up this morning, thinking about everything I wished I had been able to share with my students, I realized that this information would be helpful to a lot of people.  Every time I have thought about writing a blog, I did not have a clear idea about what I could share, that people would want to read.  Of course, if you know me at all, it’s obvious that I would blog about travel and about photography. If I’m going to take the time to write a blog, I want it to me more than just “my summer vacation,” kind of blog.  I want to provide helpful and meaningful content, so now I’ve got my beginning.  Instead of writing a million emails to my students about what they should pack, what they shouldn’t pack and things they can do to prepare for the trip,  I’m going to write it in this blog.  Then as we’re traveling, I’ll continue to post ideas, lessons learned and of course, some images.  This blog isn’t just for the photography students who will be traveling with me this summer, but for anyone interested in traveling with a camera.

The next few blog posts will be about how to prepare and what to pack!
